Bachelor of Science in Nursing

The curriculum for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing consists of four years of university studies for a total of 127 semester credits. The first and second year correspond to general studies, basic sciences, mathematics and elective courses, which will be taken in any other campus of the University of Puerto Rico and / or another University licensed by Puerto Rico Board of Post-secondary Institutions. The student is admitted to the third year, by articulated transfer, regular transfer, readmission, reclassification or transfer to the Nursing School of the Medical Sciences Campus. During the third and fourth year the curriculum is concentrated on subjects that include theoretical and clinical courses of concentration and electives in nursing.

The Office of the BSN Program is located on the second floor of the Celia Guzman Nursing Building.

c. Critical Thinking Skills:

Students who graduate from the BSN Program demonstrate critical thinking skills through the following behaviors:

1. Use of clinical judgment and decision-making skills
2. Participation in the objective self-evaluation process
3. Assessment of nursing care outcomes
4. Encourage creative problem solving.

Profile of the Graduate

The graduate of the Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing program:

1. Uses the knowledge of natural, psychosocial and humanistic sciences in professional nursing theory and practice.
2. Uses the nursing process when offering direct nursing care to individuals, families, and groups in a variety of health settings.
3. Uses the concepts and knowledge of general systems theory as a frame of reference in their nursing interventions with individuals, families and communities.
4. Accepts individual responsibility for decision making and its results in organizing, planning and implementing nursing actions.
5. Performs the role of leader in making decisions related to the management of nursing care offered by him / her and the other members of the nursing team.
6. Practice nursing in a variety of health settings by collaborating with members of the nursing team, members of the interdisciplinary health team, and consumers.
7. Contributes to the improvement of nursing practice by applying knowledge of the research process in nursing practice.
8. Complies with the commitment made to the discipline and its members, keeping up-to-date on their personal and professional development, thus contributing to the improvement of their discipline.

Admission Process:

Admission to the program may be made by transfer, transfer or reclassification and readmission. All applications will be considered to begin at the third year of studies in August.

Complete the Online Application for Admission only if you come from a private institution and have never taken courses in the UPR System. Students from the UPR system: regular transfer and articulated transfer refer to the registrar’s office of their campus and re-admission refer to the RCM registrar’s office.

A. To qualify for the third year, applicants must have passed the following courses or their equivalents, in their unit of origin ( UPR System or a recognized private university):

Students admitted with courses from other Institutions, to be validated, will be subject to the Rules of the Registrar’s Office of RCM.

B. Have a General and Specific Index of at least 2.50. The specific index is calculated by dividing the total number of honor points by the total number of credits accumulated in the following prerequisite courses or their equivalents.

• Approve the program’s 127 credit‑hours.
